Operation: Stop Scams Event Safely Shreds More than 10 Tons of Sensitive Financial Records from York Area Residents
YORK, Pa. – (May 5, 2017) – The York County Economic Alliance, in partnership with AARP Pennsylvania and Continental Paper Grading, hosted a free Operation: Stop Scams shredding event on Saturday, April 22 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Continental Paper Grading in York.
Over 400 cars drove through Continental Paper Grading dropping off approximately 21,000 lbs of materials to be shredded. This amount translates to savings of $20,790 for consumers if they had used one of the leading office supply stores to shred their documents, based on a cost of $0.99 per pound shredded.
At the event, food donations were collected. Approximately 1,865 lbs of food were donated to the York County Food Bank, along with $264 in cash donations.
“CPG is honored to be part of this initiative. Any time we can help raise awareness about recycling and the importance of shredding personal documents is a great achievement for us. Adding to it the amount of food that was donated by the AARP & YCEA members, in turn helping so many in need really makes us proud to be part of this community,” said Troy Yerger, York Plant Manager, Continental Paper Grading Co.
“The community once again turned out in force for this year’s Operation: Stop Scams shredding event. AARP was pleased to join forces with Continental Paper Grading and the York County Economic Alliance to help protect residents throughout York County from identity theft and fraud by helping consumers discard sensitive personal documents in a safe and secure manner,” said David Kalinoski, Associate State Director, AARP – Pennsylvania.
